A look back at XC Opening 2017

Last year, preparation for the XC Opening 2017 presented by Suzuki was at full speed for weeks before to the event. Luckily, we didn’t have to worry at all about the snow. The XC enthusiasts who flocked to Ramsau am Dachstein for this special weekend were rewarded with splendidly groomed cross-country tracks and, to top it off, with a gorgeous winter wonderland.

With about 300 cross-country devotees, the weekend was a fantastic experience for big and small. After a morning warm-up with Nanna Fenz, the groups ventured out to the tracks with their experienced Nordic ski instructors. After lunch, well-fortified and looking forward to the second part of their course, the trainees developed their skills under the watchful eyes of their XC instructors.

The group leaders had time for each participant, giving personalised tips and advice. From the beginner to the high-performer, everyone was looked after.

In the afternoon, all XC Opening participants could rent the latest cross-country ski gear from our many partners across the ski industry. So, kitted up, they skied the wonderful XC tracks, testing the gear out. Besides Atomic, Fischer, and Salomon, the leading cross-country ski manufacturers, there were many representatives offering tasters from HWK, Start, KV+, and many more.

There was also the chance to try out new sports. For example, under competent supervision, participants could have a go at laser-biathlon. Another highlight was the skijoring with huskies, and the husky camp.

Kids had a blast with the huskies: They could pet the dogs and hop on a husky-sleigh ride.

In the evening, the “Come back stronger” lecture by four-time Race Across America winner Christoph Strasser drew considerable crowds. The Opening Party on Saturday evening at the Waldschenke topped off a perfect weekend against a gorgeous winter backdrop.
